In the middle of last year Fareham Art Group had the opportunity to use some wall space in a shop unit in Fareham precinct in collaboration with Save a Warrior, a charity helping ex forces and emergency service workers with mental health issues. The walls of their co-working space were looking a bit bare so they invited us to set up our Pop Up Gallery. Now nearly a year later we are still going strong.
Our members can exhibit their work in the unit which is in Fareham shopping centre and is open to the public most days of the week. We change over the paintings each month and make a charge for hanging fees and small commission on any items that sell. All of this money is donated to Save a Warrior and goes towards the running expenses for the unit so it helps the charity and gives our members an incentive to paint more. It also helps Fareham Art Group to reach a wider audience and has been successful in attracting more members.
We see it as a successful community project and hope that it can continue for many more years.
