All things Christmas:

1.Our Annual Christmas Competition is now open for entries!

We are still holding our annual Christmas competition for members which would usually take place at our Christmas party.

The competition subject is A Winter Morning  and your work can be in any medium. The deadline for entries is 31 December 2020.   The winners will be chosen through members voting for their favourite. More about how you can vote will follow at the beginning of January.

We aren’t able to award  trophies currently due to the virus restrictions, but winners will still receive their certificates and vouchers to spend in the Fareham Gallery.  Current trophy holders please either retain your trophy until called for, or return it to your nearest committee member.

How to submit your competition entry:

Take a photo of your entry and email it to farehamartgroupinfo@gmail.com.  Please remember to include:

  • your name
  • membership number
  • the title of your painting and
  • the medium.

2. Christmas Cards and Craft Packs exclusively for members

To raise funds for next year’s annual exhibition we will have some cards and craft packs for sale.  These will be exclusive to members and you’ll be able to order these on the Member’s only Christmas Page of our website.  I’m currently building this webpage and willl send an email out to launch it and invite you to shop there in the next couple of weeks.

3. Look out for our Christmas Quiz

It wouldn’t be Christmas without our members’ Christmas Quiz.    This will also be accessible on our Christmas Page on the website and i’ll send an email out nearer the time with details on how you can take part.

New Art on our Website

Our website has a members gallery where your work can be displayed.  if you have a painting or drawing you would like added to the gallery please email a photograph of it to farehamartgroupinfo@gmail.com

Projects and activities and events for the months ahead

The new 2020-21  programme of events is now live on our website.  We are hoping to hold our next demonstration at the end of January but are also making contingency plans to stream or record the demonstration if we are still prevented from meeting up in person.

Additionally for early 2021 we are planning a new group painting project and a video tutorial.  Look out for news both on our website and in your members newsletters.

Congratulations to the winners of the Jenny Jennings and Diamond Trophy competition

Our still life competition closed last month and what a wonderful display of members artwork was submitted.  You can view the gallery of entries on our website.

The Jenny Jennings competition was judged by our President, Wendy Saunders who chose Blue Bowl with Clementines by Chris Lewis as the winner. Doreen Gregson’s entry – Still Life with Fruit was the runner up and Chris Johnston was awarded third place for My Little Pot.

Vice President, Mark Davies, chose the winner of the Diamond Trophy.  This award is chosen annually for the President’s Pick.  Mark chose Karen Dobbins entry – What I see when I lay in the bath.

Certificates and vouchers to spend in the Fareham Gallery were awarded to all winners.  Congratulations to them all for their award winning entries.

AGM Update

As you know, we have postponed our AGM because we are unable to hold a meeting that is accessible to all members.

With the exception of the chairman, all committee members have agreed to stay in post until it’s practical to hold committee elections.  Our chairman, Ros Croft, decided it was time for her to stand down and in the intervening period Vice Chairman, Susan Barton, will assume the role of acting chairman.

If you have any questions about the AGM papers previously circulated please send these to farehamartgroupchairman@gmail.com and we’ll share responses by email through our newsletter.

Arty ideas and opportunities shared by our Publicity Secretary

Carole Jarman, our Publicity Secretary has been busy looking for local arty opportunities and we’ll be sharing these with you each month.  If you’ve discovered something you think that members would like to know about please let Carole know at farehamartgrouppublicity@gmail.com

Last month Carole told us about an art exhibition at The Ashcroft Centre which will run from today until February.  Due to lockdown they have created a virtual tour and Live Viewings can be made at our local Ashcroft centre as soon as lockdown is over and the centre reopens.

People can vote for their favourite painting and make purchases online or at the centre.

Hampshire Cultural Trust is delighted to present the Arts Open Exhibition; a collaborative exhibition coordinated by Ashcroft Arts Centre(Fareham), Forest Arts Centre (New Milton) and West End Centre(Aldershot). The exhibition is a showcase of artwork in all different sizes, mediums and subjects from hobbyists, aspiring and professional artists of all ages, from children to adults.  Here is a link with more information

And finally…

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and helpful group.  We do our best to keep in touch with all members, but we know that some of our members don’t have access to the internet, so if you know anyone who isn’t able to receive our electronic newsletters please share this with them.  We will be posting out to these members occasionally, but not not being online can be isolating.

Perhaps you might offer to help them to participate in the competition  by taking a photo of their competition entry and sending it in on their behalf.  We’re all experiencing these extraordinary times, for some it can be quite lonely, or difficult to communicate.  Your help could make all the difference.
Best wishes

Enjoy your painting!
