A Winter Morning in 2020 by Carole Jarman

Members monthly update – January 2021

Dear members

Happy New Year – I hope this newsletter finds you safe and well.

In our first newsletter of the year we have

  • Your chance to vote for your winner in the Jack Smith Christmas painting Competition
  • Vote for your favourite painting for the group painting competition
  • Winners of the Christmas Quiz and

Vote for your winner of the Jack Smith Annual Christmas Competition

Thank you to everyone who entered this competition. I was thrilled to see so many entries, and also some people entering an online competition for the first time.  It makes all the time and effort on the website worthwhile, so I do hope you will now vote for your favourite entry.

In normal times we would be voting for this competition at our annual Christmas Party, but of course because of social distancing and restrictions that wasn’t possible this year.  Instead i’ll be telling you how you can vote quickly and easily online.  Details of how to do this follow.

Winners of the competition will get vouchers to spend in the Fareham Gallery and certificates, and when we are able to meet up again in person we will award the trophies.  I’ll share the winners in our next newsletter.

How to vote

The subject of the competition was ‘A Winter Morning@ and there are 22 lovely entries for you to choose from.  Please  make sure you have a a pen and paper handy to jot down your favourite.  Take a  look at the Gallery of entries for the The Jack Smith Christmas Competition

When you have chosen your favourite make a note of the entry number and the name of the painting.  The reason I ask you to write it down is because you will have two things to vote upon. The second thing is your choice for the group painting project that we will launch later this month.

New Group Painting Project

Those of you who have been members of the group for a while will know that from time to time we join together to create a group painting.  We do this by choosing a famous painting and dividing it into sections.  Each member participating in the project is given a section and asked to recreate that section in the medium of their choice.  When all the paintings are done, we piece them together/  to create one  large painting – you can see some of our Current and Past Projects on this site.

We would like the subject of our next project to be chosen by members so I need you to choose your favourite from the following 4 colourful paintings (images below).  Think about which would make the best wall painting and would be the most fun to paint.

We will use the most popular choice for our Spring 2021 Group Painting Project.

Choice 1 – The Harvest by Van Gogh

Choice 2 Garrowby Hill by David Hockney

Choice 3 – Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir

Choice 4 – The Kiss by Klimt

You can vote for your choice, at the same time that you vote for your favourite in the Jack Smith competition.  To vote please click on the link in your January member’s email.

Fareham Art Group Christmas Quiz – Winner

We hope that you enjoyed the Christmas Quiz this year.  Our thanks to Ros Croft for the questions.

The winner of the Quiz this year is Chris Lewis.  Congratulations Chris, your vouchers to spend in the Fareham Gallery will be sent to you by post within the next week.

Check out the quiz answers in your January Member’s email.

Enjoy your painting!
