Summer Painting days
This activity has been extended throughout September with new dates and venues. Our thanks to Tina Shaw for arranging these for us.
Tuesday September 1st Cams Mill
Tuesday September 8th Salt Cafe
Tuesday September 15th Titchfield Abbey
Tuesday September 22nd Wheelhouse, Hill head
Each event runs from 10am until 4pm. Full details are on our website members page www.farehamartgroup.co.uk/members-only-outdoor-painting-days-summer-2020/ When prompted please enter the members password .
With the gradual easing of the Government’s lockdown instructions our summer painting days have started! It was great to see the first images shared from the Portchester sketching day – they are lovely! You can see some on our website and our Facebook page.
If you haven’t been to one of our outdoor painting sessions do go along.
Getting Back Together
Although halls and venues are now reopening to clubs and groups, anyone attending will be required to adhere to the risk assessment guidelines issued by the venue. Each site has carried out its own risk assessment in accordance with government guidelines and the venue custodians/management have approved these rules for all hirers to adopt. This means that we can use the halls but restrictions will apply.
In general these are as follows:
- Social distancing – so each venue has a maximum capacity to achieve this
- All attendees must wear face masks unless they are exempt for medical reasons.
- All attendees must provide contact details which will be kept for 3 weeks after the visit
- Attendees must use hand sanitiser on arrival
- All equipment being used must be cleaned before and after the session (incl tables, chairs & door handles)
- Restricted (or no) use of the kitchen
- Follow directional signs re entry & exit
- All waste must be taken away
We take members’ health and wellbeing seriously, and completely understand if members choose not to attend these events.
If the likelihood of members attending these events is low, we will postpone/ delay resuming hall based events until the New Year(or when the situation is clearer). Nevertheless we will continue to run further activities for you via our website.
However, in order to understand the likely demand, we are asking members to respond to a short questionnaire: We will contact all members separately to ask for their views in a short survey – look out for this email in the next few days.
Tuesday evening painting group
The Tuesday Evening painting sessions have been poorly attended over the last year and consequently these sessions have been subsidised by the Club.
Additional costs that the club would incur as a result of risk assessment procedures in response to the virus along with the venue implementing a price increase from September 2020mean that the running of this event has become unsustainable. Unfortunately, we have decided to close these sessions.
However, this does give us an opportunity to explore other options such as alternative venues and different days. One option might be to hold a monthly Saturday paint along session in another venue? We take the welfare of our members seriously, and any new event will be risk assessed, and social distanced.
Membership Fees 2021
In normal times your annual membership fee to Fareham Art Group covers most of the the cost of:
- the Thursday Artist demos and competitions
- the website and news updates
- membership of the SAA including insurance
- general admin costs of running the club e.g printing, postage, stationary, publicity, competition prizes etc.
In order to keep the fee affordable we have, in recent years, subsidised the fee slightly from our reserves.
The other activities we run such as the weekly painting sessions, extended workshops, Xmas party, exhibition, trips etc, are self funding as members pay for these if they attend.
This year has been exceptional as we have had to cancel some of the demos planned due to lockdown./ To compensate we have greatly improved the website to keep members up to date with news and to offer competitions and projects to keep members busy. Moving forward, we are exploring other ways to deliver activities to members whilst observing the social distancing restrictions , and to keep the club going. We are looking forward to better times in the future such as our new look exhibition in October 2021.
Therefore, we have decided to offer a reduced renewal fee of £10 for existing members who renew by 31st October 2020. The club has a healthy reserve which can be drawn upon to cover the shortfall of income over costs this year.
Membership renewal is due at 30th September and renewal instructions will be sent out to you separately.
Renewal is as in previous years:
- pay online quoting your existing membership number/and surname
- pay be cheque to registered address
If your circumstances have changed e.g address / phone no/ email- please advise the Membership Secretary by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Projects and Activities for the Months ahead
Members will understand that due to the virus we have to make adjustments to how we meet and the activities we do. Your responses to the questionnaire will determine what we do.
- Your committee is currently looking into how we can continue to provide artist demonstrations
- Holding our Annual General Meeting in a safe and different way
- Running more virtual painting competitions and appraisals
- A new group project for members
- Online themed piece of work (weekly or fortnightly)
The committee is doing their utmost to adapt and ensure that your art club continues through this difficult period please help us by responding to the forthcoming survey when you receive it.
Comgratulations to the winners of our Summer Sketchbook Challenge
We’re delighted to announce the winners of our summer sketchbook challenge. The winner, Joan Lee, produced some colourful and imaginative work whilst following the weekly suggested themes. Our runnier up is Barbara Wright who sketched a colourful view of the Trevi Fountain in Rome from a webcam!
Well done to both of you, your vouchers and certificates are on their way.
Jenny Jennings and Diamond Trophy competition
We’re still holding our autumn competitions with the winners to be announced at the AGM. The competition title is Still Life and your work can be in any medium. The deadline for entries is 25th October 2020.
We aren’t awarding trophies currently due to the virus restrictions but winners will receive their certificates and vouchers. Current trophy holders please either retain your trophy until called for, or return it to your nearest committee member.
**Look out for details of the winter competition which will be shared in November.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly and helpful group. We do our best to keep in touch with all members, but we know that some of our members don’t have access to the internet, so if you know anyone who isn’t able to receive our electronic newsletters please share this with them. We will be posting out to these members occasionally, but not not being online can be isolating.
Perhaps you might offer to help them to participate in the competition by taking a photo of their competition entry and sending it in on their behalf. We’re all experiencing these extraordinary times, for some it can be quite lonely, or difficult to communicate. Your help could make all the difference.
Enjoy your painting!
